I find that this search engine is very useful and easy to use. It allows you to do mathematical searches as well as Boolean searching. One feature that I do like is the ability of the search to show images. The advance search is also very useful and easy to navigate. One of the disadvantages is that search engine does not have the ability to uncluster results.

www.clusty.com
When reviewing this search engine it really gave me some good places to go. I have to say that I am not to sure that I care for this search engine. One thing that I did not like about the website was that it kept bringing up the same foundation sites as yahoo, and not a whole lot that gave more then the basic information. The second thing that I did not like about this site was that to the left of the page was a bunch of random words, in no real order, that might possibly take you to something that has to do with your subject. If you did click on one of the word and found out that it may not be what you needed, it would sometimes be hard to get back to where you were. This would probably not be a search engine that I would use.

Clusty Review

www.clusty.com
When reviewing this search engine it really gave me some good places to go. A majority of study participants, over 55%, found the Gigablast search results to be as good as, or better than, search results from Google, Inc.
The study, which compared Gigablast’s and Google’s search results side-by-side, without brand names or logos, included over 220 participants. Forty-eight sample search queries were used, with the queries comprising an unbiased selection of the top queries of 2007, as reported by Google’s own Google Zeitgeist service. The majority of study participants were from North America (approximately 73% of participants). The study was conducted between February 15th and 18th, 2008.
Compared with Ask.com’s search results in a separate study, Gigablast performed even better. In that study (using the same sample search queries from Google’s Google Zeitgeist service), 44% of users preferred Gigablast to Ask.com (versus only 34% of users who preferred Ask to Gigablast). Including tie votes, 66% of users voted Gigablast better than, or as good as, Ask.com.
Comparison studies with Microsoft Live Search and Yahoo are now in progress. "Our users have always been passionate about Gigablast search, but the outcome of these studies represents great validation of the quality, relevance, and freshness of the Gigablast search results," said Matt Wells, CEO and Founder of Gigablast. "When combined with our intuitive user interface, our industry-leading privacy policy, and our flexible business services, the results of these studies demonstrate that Gigablast is an exceptional search alternative."
The studies were conducted using Gigablast’s new Search Engine Analysis service. I thought this wesite was is some ways very helpful and in other not so helpful. The great thing about this wesite is that it helped me to find different pages that I have not found google or yahoo. The discription of the page that is under the link was really helpful too. Google or yahoo brings anything or everything that has one word of your search in it, so you have to click on all the links to see if they are even what you are searching for. With live search they give a good despription of then page before you even click on the link...so you will know what you are going to be looking at.

Just as with everyting, there is always the good and the bad. The bad part...well maybe not so much bad has honlding potential to be frustrating. You have to have you word math just right. If it is not you will find things that don't even have anything to do with your subject.

I would recommend this page, just have your word math correct and you will be doing great! I believe this sight could really offer students some new angles to thier papers. As with my topic, Lou Gehrigs Disease, a lot of the pages say the same thing, so it is great to find new things.

Ask Review

I reviewed the search engine Ask.com. Strengths: Easy to use. Returns good search results. Has quick links to news, videos, blogs and maps. Contains an advanced search page for narrowing down results. Weaknesses: Not as well organized or effective as yahoo. Boolean Searching: Searching using a Boolean method is not this engine's strong point. You are limited to only the commands AND, - OR or ORR. This search engine returns good results when searching is done by quoting a phrase or word. It also returned good results when adding or subtracting terms using a mathematical method.

Academic Info Review

Academic Info review.
This website is a network organization. It is an educational subject directory linking to online education, degree programs, academic colleges, technical colleges, and universities. It has state by state information about any subject a person's interested in, including Culinary Arts, Religion, Sciences, Laws and Government, etc. The site uses Google as it's search engine which was easy to navigate. It also supports Boolean.
The site also shows you how to prepare to take college entrance exams, and gives information regarding financial aid including FAFSA, loans and grants. It's strength was that all the information was very indepth with alot of information available to anyone who is thinking about furthering their education. It's weakness was that some of the links or pages did not open up, or were not available. It also has not been recently updated, as it stated that there were monthly resource updates, with the last one being 7-2007.
The site stated that it was copyrighted 1998-2008, and is maintained by Mike Madin.

WWWVL Review

WWW Virtual Library Project Review
The website has been around since 1991 at CERN inGeneva, and is always recently updated, as it showed on towards the bottom of the screen. I found the search engine very easy to use and found many more websites than I had found before while using google. What is also great about AltaVista is that when you type in what you are looking for you can also receive images, video and recent news. This tool will be extremely helpful when it comes to needing those "extras" for my paper. On the advanced section of AltaVista I found this also to be helpful because with my topic I have to be extremely narrowed and this function allowed me to do so. The one thing that I did not like about Alta Vista was that when I typed in certain topics the number of hits did not display. During some of my topic research everything popped up on my screen, from buying a tracking dog to the origins of the original working dogs. This is where the advanced function really helped. I am looking forward to using this search engine again.

Scout Archives Review

The Internet Scout Project
The search site had operated since 1994.
